What Is Sofwave?

Sofwave is an ultrasound-energy-based treatment that lifts and tightens drooping skin on the face and body. It can address a wide range of areas and is commonly used to treat the eyebrows, neck, and submental region (the area below the chin).

This state-of-the-art treatment modality uses Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam (SUPERB™) technology. It emits high-frequency, low-divergence ultrasound energy waves to heat the middle of the dermis, which is the skin layer below the superficial skin layer (the epidermis).

Applying this heat triggers the body’s natural healing response, which causes the dermis’s fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin. These proteins are responsible for the skin’s structure and elasticity.

During this treatment, Sofwave protects the epidermal layer using SofCooltechnology. This technology emits cooling energy to lower the skin’s temperature.

With a larger supply of collagen and elastin, the skin becomes tighter and more hydrated. This results in wrinkle-free skin that looks firmer and more youthful.

Best Candidates for Sofwave

The ideal candidates for Sofwave treatments in Boston are:

  • Looking to address mild to advanced sagging
  • Looking to address shallow to moderate wrinkles

This treatment option is safe for all skin types and tones. Patients with electronic implants, such as pacemakers, must bring this up during their consultation. Patients with cystic acne or open wounds must fully address these issues before being eligible for Sofwave treatments.

The Treatment Session

The time required for a Sofwave treatment session depends on the areas being treated. For full face and neck treatment, the session will take about 30 to 45 minutes to complete.

Each treatment will be prepared and tailored to each patient. This will ensure a comfortable and pain-free session for the patient.

As the topical anesthetic takes effect, the Sofwave device will be calibrated to the proper energy level for the patient’s skin type and aesthetic needs. Once the skin is numbed, the cream will be removed from the skin. Ultrasound gel will then be administered.

Next, the device will be passed evenly across the skin of the treatment region, emitting ultrasound waves. At first, the energy will be set to a lower frequency and will gradually increase as the treatment continues.

Combining Sofwave with Other Treatments

Sofwave pairs well with numerous types of skin treatments, including laser skin resurfacing, chemical peels, and injectables.

Laser Skin Resurfacing with Lutronic LASEMD

LASEMD is a non-ablative, fractional thulium laser, this 1927nm technology revitalizes the skin’s surface and removes dead and damaged skin layers, revealing undamaged new skin cells. It effectively targets pigmentation and stimulates the production of new collagen while ensuring patients experience very little downtime. This treatment removes sun spots, reduces acne, wrinkles, dullness, and other skin issues. It pairs well with Sofwave for advanced tightening and rejuvenation.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels involve applying a specially tailored chemical solution to the superficial skin. This solution then penetrates down through the skin layers; penetration depth will depend on the specific chemicals used. This process encourages dead and damaged skin cells to peel away, making way for new skin cells. Chemical peels can address a number of skin imperfections and work nicely with Sofwave’s skin-tightening effects.

Injectables

Injectable treatments like neuromodulators and dermal fillers are an excellent pairing with Sofwave. Neuromodulators relax facial muscles to ease away fine age lines. Dermal fillers increase skin volume, reducing hollowness, moderate wrinkles, and harsh facial folds.

After a Sofwave Session

Once the Sofwave treatment session is complete, no recovery or downtime will be required. Patients can immediately return to their daily schedule. Patients can safely wash their face, resume their regular skincare regimen, and apply makeup immediately following the treatment.

Patients may experience a minor degree of tenderness, swelling, and/or numbness in the targeted regions. These side effects will ameliorate over the course of a few days. Patients must avoid scratching the treatment areas and apply SPF 30+ sunscreen regularly to prevent sun damage.
